Saturn Award (giải Sao Thổ) là giải thưởng thường niên của Viện Hàn lâm phim khoa học viễn tưởng, kỳ ảo và kinh dị trao cho các hoạt động phim ảnh thuộc các thể loại như phim kinh dị, kỳ ảo và khoa học viễn tưởng, phim truyền hình và video giải trí tại gia. Mới đây, BTC Saturn Award 2021 vừa công bố danh sách đề cử gồm nhiều tên tuổi nghệ sĩ, tác phẩm điện ảnh, truyền hình đặc sắc ra mắt trong năm 2020.
Đáng chú ý, danh sách đề cử hạng mục Nữ diễn viên chính xuất sắc nhất bất ngờ có sự xuất hiện của nữ diễn viên Trung Quốc Lưu Diệc Phi. Cô có được để cử nhờ vai nữ chính Hoa Mộc Lan trong bộ phim Mulan của Disney ra mắt hồi năm ngoái.
Sự góp mặt của Lưu Diệc Phi ở bảng đề cử khiến nhiều người không khỏi ngạc nhiên, khó hiểu. Bởi lẽ từ trước đến nay, Lưu Diệc Phi luôn được xem là "bình hoa di động", bị đánh giá thấp về khả năng diễn xuất. Thậm chí sau khi xem Mulan, ngay cả khán giả Trung Quốc cũng chê Lưu Diệc Phi diễn đơ, bộ phim dở tệ, kém đột phá.
Cùng xuất hiện với Lưu Diệc Phi trong danh sách Nữ diễn viên chính xuất sắc nhất còn có các tên tuổi nổi tiếng khác gồm Elisabeth Moss (The Invisible Man), Natalie Portman (Lucky in the Sky), Daisy Ridley (Star Wars : Episode IX - The River of Skywalker), Margot Robbie (Birds of Prey), Charlize Theron (The Old Guard).
Ngoài ra, Mulan còn đạt được nhiều đề cử tại lễ trao giải Saturn Award 2021. Trong đó có thể kể đến Best Action/Adventure Film Release (Phát hành phim hành động/phiêu lưu hay nhất), Best Supporting Actor in a Film (Nam diễn viên phụ xuất sắc nhất), Best Film Director (Đạo diễn phim xuất sắc nhất), Best Film Screenplay (Kịch bản phim hay nhất), Best Film Costume (Trang phục phim đẹp nhất).
Dù đây chưa phải giải thưởng chính thức nhưng vẫn khiến khán giả khá shock khi Mulan nhận được nhiều đề cử đến vậy. Trong khi trước đó, hầu hết các bình luận về tác phẩm đều là chê bai, điểm IMDB của phim chỉ đạt 5,6. Thậm chí, nhiều người còn cho rằng hãng phim Walt Disney đã "động tay động chân" gì đó để đem về đề cử cho tác phẩm nhuốm màu thất bại này.
