Giải Primetime Emmy (tựa gốc: Primetime Emmy Award) là giải thưởng Mỹ được trao tặng bởi Viện Nghệ thuật và khoa học truyền hình nhằm công nhận những thành tựu chương trình truyền hình trong giờ vàng tại Mỹ. Giải thưởng thuộc giải Emmy, được xem là tương đương với Giải Oscar (điện ảnh).
Đây là năm thứ 3 liên tiếp, series kỳ ảo từ nguyên tác của nhà văn George R.R. Martin - Game of Thrones, dẫn đầu với 23 đề cử. Đã có nhiều dự đoán cho rằng giải Emmy năm nay sẽ tiếp tục chứng kiến sự thống trị của Game of Thrones mùa 6, bởi đây được đánh giá là phần hay nhất từ trước đến nay.
Và không nằm ngoài dự đoán, giải thưởng danh giá nhất cho một series phim truyền hình đã chính thức thuộc về phần 6 của series Game of Thrones, đánh bại nhiều đối thủ khác như: Mr Robot, Homeland hay House of Cards…Đây là một chiến thắng không mấy bất ngờ với khán giả đại chúng, bởi ngay cả một mùa 5 gây tranh cãi vẫn đủ sức thống trị Emmy thì không có lý do gì để cho mùa 6 - được nhận xét là xuất sắc hơn cả lại hụt giải.
